Connect within

Sian Thomas

Bishopthorpe, York

A chance to come home to yourself, to reconnect with your own heart and with each other. A time for yourself, to nurture and tend to the truth within yourself…

In a world that seems increasingly dark, disconnected and divided, Connect Within circles are a chance for women to come together, to connect at a deeper level to themselves and others. It is a place where we can sink into the truth of who we are and what it means to be human.

Connect Within circles are held by me, Sian, in the warmth and comfort of my living room in York, lit by the light each woman brings. They are a chance to reconnect with yourself, to share what needs to be spoken, and to rediscover the golden thread that connects us, heartbeat to heartbeat. It is a chance to put down your burdens, let your masks fall, and sink into the restful sense of simply being.

Each circle is different as we co-create the beauty of the circle anew each time. But each will begin with a grounding meditation to bring you back into your body; this very human body that is the seat of emotions, that holds the memories of your past, and that carries you forward. Inspired by poetry or the cycles of nature, each circle holds an invitation to look within and see yourself in a new light.

Are you full of joy and light? Or are you weighted down with cares and grief? Does rage burn in your belly? Does love glow in your heart? Whatever you bring is welcome. However you are, you are, you already have a place in the Circle, you just haven’t stepped into it yet.

Who am I?
How can any of us answer a question like ‘who are you?’ I am a mother, daughter, teacher, friend, partner, physicist, zen student, meditation leader. I am a lover of nature, a walker, an amateur paint dabbler, a wild swimmer.
I am quiet and bubbly-loud, a woman of calm reflection and extravagant gestures. I am filled with hope and pulled down by sorrow. I am all of these things and yet none of these exactly describe me. They are all labels of who I can be at any given moment.

As a mother, partner and daughter, I have often felt myself pulled by the opposing forces of grief and gratitude: grief at the darkness that seems to be surrounding us, and gratitude for the love and wonder I experience through connection with people and nature. My years of leading meditation groups and teaching mindfulness in schools showed me that we need places of calm contemplation, but we need to connect together, to share who we are; to be known, to be held and to hold each other. Connect Within is my invitation to you to join me.
